Teachers

Doreen Wells

Since we have undertaken this Summer Ballet School I feel more and more that it is my duty to pass on the knowledge I have gained. Over the years  I have felt so privileged to have been mentored by such amazing and inspiring people. The unique opportunity of different exercise combinations makes me realise more than ever before the importance of being whole in one's approach to succeed as a dancer but also as a human being.

Wayne Sleep OBE & Fernando Montano will also be teaching.

Donald MacCleary OBE

'Donald MacCleary'  received his dance training at the Royal Ballet School in London. Kenneth MacMillan soon began to use the young dancer in his ballets, the beginning of a lifelong collaboration. MacMillan's first creation for MacLeary was in "The Burrow" with Lynn Seymour. The very young dancer made his mark in the London in John Cranko's "The Lady and the Fool" and "Antigone". Over the next decades MacLeary danced all the great roles of the classical and modern repertoire. For the premiere of  MacMillan's "The Song of the Earth" MacCleary danced the role of 'Man'. Legendary was his artistic partnership with the ballerina Svetlana Beriosova. After ending his active career on the stage MacLeary worked as ballet master and coach with the Royal Ballet, where he was often called back as a sought-after partner.

 Peter Schaufuss

'Peter Schaufuss' started at the Royal Danish Ballet School when he was 7 years old, and, as an apprentice, had his debut with the company in DON QUIXOTE’s pas de deux, after which he was taken into the company. Shortly afterwards, he was offered a soloist’s contract at the Canadian National Ballet and after two seasons he returned to Copenhagen, before being invited to London Festival Ballet as principal dancer. In this period Schaufuss established himself as an international guest dancer within the entire classical repertoire, in companies including the Kirov Ballet in St Petersburg and American Ballet Theatre in New York, the Paris Opera Ballet and the Royal Ballet in London.  He also worked with the New York City Ballet and George Balanchine, who created two ballets for him.  Other leading choreographers who choreographed specifically for Schaufuss  were Roland Petit (The Paris Opera), Sir Kenneth MacMillan and Sir Frederick Ashton.

Caroline Hutchings

'Caroline Hutchings' was trained at the Bush Davies School and later under Mrs Hayton -Curtis at the Associated Arts School.  After several years as a student and teacher there,  Caroline studied with Audery De Vos.
In 1979 Caroline went to Brazil and worked with Dalal Achcar, and Desmond Doyle,  teaching within the school and the municipal theatre.
Caroline now teaches freelance in Guildford and in Sussex.

Anya Grinstead, LRAD, ARAD

' Anya Grinstead' trained at the Royal Academy of Dance Teacher Training course and has had wide teaching experience, including many years with vocational students at Elmhurst Ballet School.

As a student I was introduced to Audrey de Vos's classes and was very much influenced by her unique teaching. Later on, as an experienced teacher, I was fortunate to meet de Vos's teaching assistant Janet Westerberg. Through her I was able to comprehend the work at a deeper level, seeing its immense value to the teaching of dance today.

In 1955, I started 'Back to the Barre', a week of classes inspired by de Vos and taught by Janet. The essence of this work helps, students with their technique and physique and teaches them to feel the joy in dance!

Henry Roche

'Henry Roche' was born in Beaconsfield. He studied Classics at Cambridge and piano with David Parkhouse at the Royal College of Music.  He joined The Royal Ballet in 1977 and was Head of Music Staff from 1991 until retiring in 2010.  With the Company he performed many solos and concertos, including Les Noces, A Month in the Country (Chopin), La Fin du Jour (Ravel), Ondine (Henze), Las Hermanas (Frank Martin’s Harpsichord Concerto) and Polyphonia (solo piano music by Ligeti).  He is the great-great-grandson of Ignaz Moscheles, on whom he has broadcast and written articles, and whose music he continues to try to bring to a wider audience.
